CANDIDATE STATEMENT

As current Mayor Pro Tem and a Councilmember, I have delivered on my promises: I have worked tirelessly to ensure Walnut Creek remains one of the best places to live and work.

Listening to and working with the community, I have dedicated my energy to accomplishing what needs to be done.

I championed the Council's community outreach efforts, including booths at the Farmers Markets and the 2009 Community Conversations.

I spearheaded the Council's Rossmoor Liaison Program, improving our working relationship with that senior community.

As the only Councilmember on the library campaign steering committee, I helped raise more than $5,000,000 in private contributions for our new library + which opened on time and $6,000,000 under budget.

I worked actively with the grassroots group Yes for Walnut Creek to ensure our community's voice on Neiman Marcus, bringing jobs to Walnut Creek, improving downtown parking, and strengthening local business.

As Council's Youth and Family Services chair, I worked with parents and school officials on safe access to schools, spearheading regional school crossing guard efforts.

I am leading our efforts to find regional transportation solutions, including improvements to Geary Road and the new Treat/Iron Horse Trail overcrossing.

In these challenging times, we need proven, dedicated leadership.

If re-elected, I will continue to apply my energy and experience to our critical issues: strengthening the local economy and ensuring the City's fiscal health; fostering partnerships to sustain basic services and provide the arts, recreation and cultural programs that make our community outstanding; leading efforts for a more energy-efficient, sustainable community; preserving downtown while improving parking; working regionally on traffic and transportation issues.

I have a long and proven record of leadership and service. I would be honored to continue working for our community and ask for your vote for Walnut Creek City Council.
