Julie Rossiter's Candidate Statement

As an Orinda school board trustee, I will be a forceful advocate for progress in education and for maintaining our success.

I have three children: a son at OIS, a daughter at Del Rey, and a daughter in preschool. As such, I have an ongoing interest in ensuring the schools provide the best possible education for all our children.

My years as a school volunteer at Del Rey give me the experience to excel on the school board. I'm the school's legislative representative, was treasurer of its annual fundraising drive for two years, and have had leadership roles in the school's auction and annual party. Each position has given me insight into the budget challenges facing the Orinda school district.

As an attorney for seven years before our son's birth, I gained significant experience solving difficult problems, advocating where necessary for change, and building consensus to obtain results. I'm willing to defend what I believe is right, but also to listen to those who disagree with me.

Orinda has an outstanding reputation as one of the best school districts in the state. Despite state budget constraints, it's critical for our leaders to maintain and build on this excellence. How can we do more with less? How can we ensure our children have the same or better opportunities as the generation before them?

It will take the unwavering commitment and vision of a team that will work hand in hand with parents, teachers, administrators, students and the community. With strong leadership and perseverance, excellence will continue to be the standard for our district. I respectfully ask for your vote.
