1. Smart Growth The city council needs to put policies in place that ensure any future development in Lafayette is done by developers who understand our community and any project is developed with the purpose of benefiting the residents and not solely for the developer's financial gain.

2. Community Preservation Lafayette is a vibrant community. We should be preserving our way of life by continuing to champion and protect open space while being open to different projects that could potentially enhance our Lafayette as well as retain its unique character. Any funds spent on redevelopment should encourage a "semi-rural" theme.

3. Repairing Our Roads Fixing the roads is a top priority the future council needs to not only address, but give the attention the residents demand. Realizing that the roads cannot all be repaired at once, I would take incremental steps by first shifting funds in the current budget allotted to roadwork from any non-repair uses. At this point Lafayette needs drivable roads, not flowers alongside them.

4. Increasing Services To Seniors If elected, I will ensure that programs such as the Senior Transportation Program are adequately funded. These programs are currently being threatened by budget cuts and shortfalls. I believe our seniors are a resource in the community that does not deserve to be shortchanged.

5. Transparency between City Staff and Residents Despite our perceived strong financial budgetary standing, the council needs to take a hard look at how the city will avoid depleting the general fund from $8.5 million to approximately $1.7 million in the next 5 years as is currently the city's own forecast. As a councilmember I always want to err on the side of caution and would not want the budget to rely on money that may or may not be available.
