1. Why a 3 year contract with salary raises each year when our budget is cut by reduction in property tax?
2. Why the loss of grant writing revenue for this Fire District?
3. Why the excessive overtime without regard to budget or the true need for the overtime?
Other agencies in tough times have obtained modifications in salary & benefits from employees. Eliminating overtime is a must in order to get our budget under control.
The past 22 months have take a toll on public safety in our District. Too many of the Directors, 3 appointed, are more concerned with being liked by the employees rather than making the difficult fiscal decisions that are required to keep us fiscally sound!
The ouster of Chief Gary Boyles led to pension spiking for the interim Chief. Hiring three "double dippers" to administer the District & the Pinole Fire Department has led to the "same old-same old! Where are the new ideas and the vision for the future? The employee goal of a move to Con Fire does nothing to improve Public Safety in our District or in the neigboring Districts. It improves the pay, pension & perks of the current employees without improving the service or safety of the citizens.
#2 We had a superior grant writer in Chief Boyles. His ability brought many training props & equipment to our District. The past 20 months have seen the grant writing drop to ZERO! In difficult times Grants are a way to stretch our tight budget & provide for items that enhance public safety!
#3 Out of control overtime at a time that our budget is under water is unconscionable! The lack of vision by the current administration when compared to Chief Boyles should be as appalling to all voters as it is to me.
