Issue: Should Clayton Add a Tax Measure?

By Ted Meriam

Candidate for Council Member; City of Clayton

This information is provided by the candidate
Ted is not in favor of additional taxes for Clayton at this time. Cities should not tax residents for the sake of taxing.
Ted was asked to quickly provide his stance on whether or not Clayton needed a tax measure to raise income for the city. As cities struggle balance budgets in this economy, increased taxes have been one method to make ends meet.

Ted is not in favor of additional taxes for Clayton at this time. Cities should not tax residents for the sake of taxing.

Clayton is fortunate that prior City Councilmembers have been fiscally conservative and been able to continue to deliver community services using a balanced budget. The City is known to not speed money it does not have.

Ted will continue this trend, only considering tax measures that have a well-identified need supported by the public (such as Measure O, which built and maintains the downtown Grove Park).
