I grew up as one of ten children in a family where money was always tight and there was always more work to be done. After high school I worked as a wild land firefighter with CalFire (CDF) for about a decade. During this time I became a State of California Certified Fire Fighter 1. I learned a great deal about vegetation management, fire prevention, and emergency operations during my career as a firefighter.

I went to college later in life when I could afford to do so without borrowing money or relying on government services to pay my way. I graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Planning. As well, I completed additional units to be awarded a Certificate in Rural and Town Planning from the University.

My husband and I chose to buy our home here in Paradise because we like the landscape with its forested horizon and the rural feel that our town provides. After living in Paradise for approximately two years I was appointed to the Planning Commission and have been serving ever since (I am in my fourth year of service).

Community is important to me and I make time to volunteer with various non-profit organizations. More recently, I have volunteered with the Paradise Center for Tolerance and Nonviolence to develop and facilitate an anti bullying program for school age children. In the past I have been an active volunteer with: The American Red Cross, Lake County Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention, Lake County Dispute resolution Services, Clearlake Oaks Fire Department, AmeriCorps, California Native Plant Society, and The Butte County General Plan Update Citizens Advisory Committee.
