Councilmember; City of Berkeley; District 8

Gordon Wozniak was elected to Berkeley's City Council in December 2002.

During the past 8 years in office, Gordon has focused on reducing property crime, increasing citizen participation, and improving municipal services, recycling rates, and energy efficiency in the City of Berkeley.

In addition to his work on Council, Gordon represents Berkeley on the Alameda County Waste Management Authority and Recycling Board. He also serves on the City of Berkeley's Redevelopment Agency, the Agenda Committee, and City Partners, a work group bringing together the City, UC Berkeley, fraternities and sororities, and neighbors to discuss issues of mutual concern. He has also served on the Oakland Airport-Community Noise Management Forum.

Gordon's roots with Berkeley run deep, starting out as a graduate of U.C. Berkeley in 1966, and continuing as a resident of District 8 for over 30 years. He received a PhD from UC Berkeley in Nuclear Chemistry, and is internationally recognized for his work as a research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for over 30 years. Gordon has also addressed city problems while serving as a commissioner on the Planning Commission, the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Environmental Commission. He also has been a board member of the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Originally from Dubuque, Iowa, Gordon moved to Berkeley in 1966 to attend graduate school, where he met his wife Evie.
