How Joyce Will Keep San Leandro SafeBy Joyce Rutledge StarosciakCandidate for Mayor; City of San Leandro | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Work with safety officers and community organizationsJoyce is extremely proud to have been endorsed by the San Leandro Police Officers Association, the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs Association, and the Peace Officers Research Association of California As a City Council member Joyce restored eight sworn officer positions to the San Leandro Police Department, and measurably reduced crime in District 4 by holding neighborhood security summits. The result of the first year's Summit was 50% less crime in the Windsor Square shopping center. Last year the Security Summit significantly reduced fireworks violations in District 4. Police Services have been drastically cut in the City's current budget. Crime prevention through neighborhood watch and school programs like DARE are greatly at risk and hurt us in the long term. Joyce is working to make sure the City applies for and receives Federal stimulus funds in order to be able to hire for more police officers. She's also advocating for better community engagement to add extra eyes and ears on our streets and in our neighborhoods. Continuing and expanding the Security Summit concept will reduce crime throughout the City. |
