Community CommitmentBy George David PerezvelezCandidate for Rent Stabilization Board Commissioner; City of Berkeley | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Affordable Housing and Community InvestmentA Rent Board Commissioner must be fully invested in the diverse rental population it represents. An investment in stopping gentrification and a commitment to inclusiveness via a personal approach is the only viable way to increase interest in the work of the board and ascertain the needs of renters and landlords are met. Only through community outreach programs will we ensure full participation by all in the process. If given your trust and elected to the Rent Board, I pledge to place the full salary into an escrow account and at the end of the year invest it in supporting Low Income Housing Initiatives, Homeless and Victims of Domestic Violence Shelters as well as Non-Profit Housing Advocacy Organizations. Depending on the term I am elected to,this will mean a commitment ranging from $12,000 to $24,000 dollars to give back to the community. |
