Full Biography for Rebecca Olivera

|
Rebecca and her family have lived in unincorporated Hayward since 1992. She and her husband William have four sons, all of whom have attended district schools since kindergarten. Two of her sons have graduated from Arroyo High School and are attending college in Tennessee while the other two are attending Arroyo High School and Bohannon Middle school. Rebecca worked for the San Lorenzo School district from 1998 to 2008. She started at Edendale Middle School as a Bilingual Attendance Clerk. A year later, she became the Registrar at Arroyo High School. During this ten-year span, Rebecca came to appreciate the ever-changing climate of the District's constituents. Noting the need to help students and parents, Rebecca offered assistance to students and parents, making herself available to translate in parent/teacher and counselor/student conferences. She also assisted student athletes and their families with NCAA registration at Arroyo. Rebecca established a healthy working relationship with teachers, working closely with them on grades and progress reports to ensure all information needed was submitted on time and accurately every six weeks. Rebecca also worked alongside the classified staff at numerous schools and at the District Office assisting anyone in need of a query or instructions on how to deal with a particular student database issue. Being the Registrar, "Mrs. O", as the students fondly regarded her, was also responsible for dissemination and extraction of data within the student information database and used this information to create spreadsheets on which the Principal, Superintendent and State used for a variety of informational and decision making purposes. Rebecca is currently employed at California State University, East Bay, working as the Office Manager/Project Manager for the Office of University Advancement. In the two and a half years she has worked at CSUEB, she has been able to establish herself as a respected employee, a team player, collaborator and is always willing to go above and beyond what is needed. While the main functions of her position as an Office Manager are rewarding, they do not allow her to do what she loves the most (working with students), so she volunteers for many of the outreach events offered to the local community. Some of these events include: Gates Millennium Bridge Builders Workshop Super Sunday and the Latino American Education Summit. Keeping in close contact with the many outreach programs allows her to remain involved in the lives of high school students and encourage positive decisions and direction. In addition to her efficiency, collaborative skills, teamwork, ability to learn quickly and adapt to the situation, ability to listen and make decisions objectively, Rebecca also posses the personal quality traits of being honest, upholding integrity, being fair, using sound judgment and staying true to her convictions. These skill sets, in addition to her experience and the resources that are available to her, make Rebecca a well-rounded and great candidate for this position. Rebecca has a deep passion for the San Lorenzo Unified School District. The ten years spent as an employee and the 17 years her children have been in attendance are a special part of her life. Her desire is to continue service to the district in the capacity as a Board Member. |
