Member of the State Assembly; District 7; Democratic Party

Michael Wilson is a sitting member of the Vallejo City Council and a candidate for the State Assembly in the 7th District.

Michael is a strong progressive Democrat who has a fair-minded business background + making him well suited to deal with the financial insolvency within Vallejo and the State's fiscal crisis.

His primary political engagement for the past several years has also been a personal fight. He and his husband Peter have been fighting for same sex marriage rights. In 2008 they had a wedding performed by Senator Patricia Wiggins. The courts upheld their marriage, but because of Prop 8 other gay couples do not have the same right to a wedding certificate.

In his race for council he was upfront about who he was. He proved to be a hard worker and a strong fundraiser. His campaign was bolstered by support from both local labor unions and the local business community. By Election Day, he had earned the endorsement of the local paper and was the top vote getter - obtaining more votes than even the Mayor.

Prior to local government Michael's career has been in financial management. He is Vice President and CFO of ARC Inc. Architects where he runs the company's operations and business development. While the majority of projects are located in the San Francisco Bay area, ARC Inc. completes projects in Southern California and throughout the Western region. His duties include formulating growth strategies, corporate policies, finance, personnel and public relations.

Michael has also served as the Chairman of the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, been President of the Downtown Association of Vallejo, Past Chairman of the Vallejo Economic Development Commission, and a member of the Vallejo Main Street board. He works with several non-profits as an amateur auctioneer.

The youngest of six children raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Michael graduated from Gonzaga University, did his postgraduate studies in Cambridge, and Los Angeles. He is fluent in Spanish and has lived in Central America and Mexico. His husband is the director of the Benicia Vallejo Humane Society and also very politically involved in Vallejo. They live with two loving canine companions: Aspen and King.
