My belief that we need traditional values, today.
Hello, my name is Yvonne Girard, Republican candidate for Lt Governor here in California. My belief is that we need traditional values, TODAY! God, Country and Family. Someone once said, "When morality falls, the empire falls". I believe that is true today. We've often heard "Those who stand for nothing, will fall for anything."
As a college student leader, just as most young people believe, I thought I knew how the world worked. I became a staff member on a gubernatorial campaign, a Retail Manager, member of the military and lastly an employee of the Court with a front row seat to the consequences of crime.
Then, I got married and had children. And, as most parents know, having children will humble even the most knowledgeable of people, because now you are responsible for the life of another and their future. Parenting is a journey, fraught with lessons learned, and many joys. California in particular and, America in general, are on a similar journey. In the eyes of the world, our country is considered quite young and to many naïve. Building a strong, more responsible future is a long, arduous process. And, just as a teenager fights to experience life on their own terms and rebel against authority, it is the responsibility of America's guardians, its citizens, to reinforce responsibility and set boundaries.
We need to keep California, and the rest of America, on the straight and narrow road, even when there are those who want to deviate from our foundational truths, established at the creation of our great state and nation. We cannot give in to the tantrums of those who want to go off the path set before us of responsible, yet visionary leadership. And, allow ourselves to give in to what amounts to peer pressure to become like other nations, when we were designed to stand apart as a beacon of freedom.
We either stand for truth or we fall for deception. A portion of the preamble to the American Constitution states "And secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity." The California Constitution states "We the people of the State of California, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, in order to perpetuate and secure it's blessings, do establish this Constitution." Evangelist Jerry Savelle said, "Being blessed means the ability to prevent misfortune in the lives of others."
I do not apologize for our great State of California and this uniquely, divinely established country. We are able to prevent misfortune in our homeland and countries devastated by disaster because we are blessed. And, we are able to prevent further disasters by standing up to the bullies of this world. If you believe as I do, in our need for traditional values, today, then I ask for your vote June 8th, 2010. Thank you for your time and consideration.
