Political Philosophy for Bill Trask

Good judges understand that independence in the courtroom does not mean independence from the voters I'm running for this office because I realize that the citizens of our County have been shut out of the decision of who represents them in our courts. We need to return our courts to the fundamentals, the A-B-Cs of judicial conduct. ACCOUNTABILITY Appointments are intended as a temporary means of filling judicial vacancies, yet during our current administration, 4 out of 5 judges are in office by appointment and have not faced you, the voters, as required by the California Constitution. We don't want judges who are independent of you and our system, we need accountable judges who will treat each citizen and matter with the same impartial care. BOUNDARIES The legislature you elect represents you in the law-making process. Judges must stay within the boundaries created by our Constitution and only interpret those laws. When a judge exchanges the law for his or her personal preference, they have put themselves above the law and put justice out of reach. COMMON SENSE Common sense comes from experience and too many of our judges have limited life experience. They go from law school (a world of its own) to a large law firm or the District Attorney's office, to the bench. They've never had to see life from outside the courtroom, from your point of view. My history is long and broad and gives me the experience and wisdom to make sensible rulings. |
