Community Business PlanBy Brian "Barry" PollardCandidate for Council Member; City of San Diego; Council District 4 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Upon assuming office this is my business plan with the community / district. 1) Hire a professional and effective staff who: a) Are responsive to the constituents needs. b) Understand the district issues. c) Have a clear understanding of the issues facing the city as a whole. 2) Develop a coalition to unify the whole district to work together toward a better future. Have quarterly Town Hall meetings to track the success of the coalition. 3) Continue the fight for equality for all. 4) With input from constituents, develop a four year plan that is based on the following: a) The district bringing more jobs that pay livable wages into the area, while always mitigating for the negative effects that can arise as a consequence. Having a strong focus on economic development to bring good employers into the area. b) The District's redevelopment must focus on ensuring that there is good quality housing that is affordable to all constituents, that transportation is sufficient for everyone, and it must take a lead in ensuring energy efficiencies for residents so they can save money. c) Our public infrastructure must finally be put at the top of the city's list so that capital improvements are fairly spread throughout the city, and the historic lack of funding in D4 is brought into the light. This includes our parks, libraries, roads and recreation centers. d) The city must use every possible avenue to encourage effective non-profits in the district to fill the spaces where the city has been unable to keep up with demand. e) Encourage the upgrade of the District's open spaces and stay on top of environmental issues to create a better quality of life for residents. This will include the continued upgrade of the Chollas Creek as a recreational area. f) Work with existing small businesses to ensure they have the tools they need to become sustainable and successful. This may include support for the BID, Encanto Business Association, and various other organizations designed to strengthen our business community. In summary I will focus on our community, support our resources that are designed to enhance our quality of living and to become more effective and responsive to our residents. We do not want to continuously watch our community deteriorate, and unravel we have a choice today. Vote for our community, vote for a better community for us and our children. |
