Full Biography for Bill Irvine

I was born in San Francisco in 1958. I attended West Portal Elementary School(class of 1970). We moved to Mill Valley, where I attended Edna Maguire Middle School(class of 1972) and Tamalpais Union High School and Mount Tamalpais/Katherine Branson High School(class of 1976). I have been a Democratic Party activist since the age of 17, when I walked precincts for then-Governor Jerry Brown who was running for President. I moved to San Diego in 1980. My first San Diego campaign was the push for District-only elections for the City Council in 1981. Since then, I have volunteered for numerous candidates and issues in every election cycle. I am particularly proud of my role in the Managed Growth Initiative(Prop A, November 1985). I ran a small absentee ballot project promoting a "yes" vote. The Initiative passed. I've always felt that this event marked the beginning of a sea-change in San Diego politics from hardcore conservatism to progressive possibilities. I have, over the years, been involved in Democratic clubs. I am currently a member of the San Diego Democratic Club, La Jolla Democratic Club, Pacific Beach Democratic Club(past Vice-President), Point Loma Democratic Club and Uptown Democratic Club(current President). I have lived in Normal Heights since 1999, where I own a condo. |
