Public safety is always on everyone's mind and it should be. We are fortunate to live in one of the largest safest cities in the country. This has to do with the people that make San Jose their home.Unfortunately no city is crime or accident free. It is necessary that we have a competent public safety program. However,I do not find it necessary to spend 52% to keep them operating. The unecessary costs of antiquated pension plans that do not make sense for todays San Jose has added to the city's $116 million budget deficit.I agree that public safety should be a priority; but to what extent? I have an arguement to present to the employees and the voters of this city. Should we sacrifice our future and our childrens future for the sake of the unions? My opinion is that we should not leverage the city's future for the sake of the unions. Therefore they should do all that is possible to negotiate a plan that benefits all the stakeholders.
