Statement of MAGDALENA CARRASCO, Candidate for
Member, San Jose City Council, District 5

Occupation: Family/Child Advocate                Age: 43
Education and Qualifications:
The child of immigrants and the first member of my family to graduate college, I was successful because of the support from my family and community.
Our community deserves a leader with the experience to fight for safer streets and neighborhoods, opportunities for our children and the jobs and benefits that come with small, local businesses.
I am running for San Jose City Council because it's time to restore our commitment to each and every person in San Jose - especially in District 5.
I have spent my life fighting for children and families in need. In my community, I work to make our youth successful, creating programs like "Guns for Music" to keep at-risk youth out of gangs. I have worked closely with my husband in our small business; I know firsthand the struggles to make small businesses successful. As a Family and Child Advocate for First 5, I work with victims of crime and help families rebuild after tragedy.
I am the only candidate who can bring this vast experience to City Hall. Thank you for your vote.
