The District Attorney's office must establish an arson unit. These professionals will work closely with all fire agencies to thoroughly and effectively investigate and prosecute those responsible for starting unlawful fires throughout the county. What has recently become all too clear is that willful or negligent fires expose this county to a high degree of danger, destruction and cost. What we have learned from our recent disasters is that effective public communication is mandatory and that the prevention and prosecution of such fires must be given greater priority.
