Career Technical Programs are VitalBy Matt HedgesCandidate for Member; Sacramento County Board of Education; Trustee Area 3 | |

Career Technical Programs must be ranked as a top priority if we want students to get jobs when they graduate. If elected, I am going to be a strong advocate for the preservation and expansion of career technical programs, vocational education, and ROP classes. I'm concerned about the students who, for one reason or another, are not college bound. We are teaching our students that you must go to college in order to succeed, and I believe this line of thinking is wrong. I believe that college is a great thing, I had a great experience in college and it made me a better person, but it is not for everyone. For those students who are not going to go to college, we must do a better job at preparing them for the workforce BEFORE they graduate from high school. 87% of students who successfully complete an ROP course end up getting a full time job. These programs are some of our most vital, and must be preserved. As your Board of Education trustee, I will make this my top priority. |
