Currently the Marin Sheriff's Dept. maintains patrol in several "islands" of the county (Greenbrae, Kentfield, Sleepy Hollow, Marinwood, Ignacio). To do this a deputy Sheriff must drive past one or more neighboring City police agencies to respond to any of these "islands". This practice is inefficient and expensive. I propose a much more regional policing program that would encompass the County subsidizing the smaller local police departments and having the police agencies respond to the "island" calls for service.
This would greatly reduce the response time to the call (sometimes by ten minutes or more!); it would free up the deputies for better coverage in the outlying unincorporated areas and provide much needed revenue to the Cities involved. The additional revenue would help reduce that strain and save the County hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.
IT IS TIME FOR MARIN TO REDUCE EXPENDITURES AND ELIMINATE EXPENSIVE AND OUTDATED PRACTICES.
