Open Letter to Salinas & North County ResidentBy Ed MitchellCandidate for Supervisor; County of Monterey; Supervisorial District 2 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Dear Friends & Neighbors: North County has been abandoned and exploited for the benefit of a few. Our treasured rural lifestyle is being eroded by unsustainable development on what was formerly open space and agricultural land. Meanwhile, once tranquil north Salinas neighborhoods now experience increased burglaries, graffiti, and gang crime. Our quality of life is diminished by water overdraft, gridlock traffic, deficient infrastructure, and vanishing services. As longtime residents my wife, Jan, and I have worked tirelessly to protect the quality of life for District 2 communities. Teamed with neighborhood groups, we've opposed poorly planned projects like "Rancho San Wrong" which would have crippled our roadways. We've demanded developers be held to their permit requirements for infrastructure and fire protection. We've pushed for timely code enforcement. We've fought for open government. Unfortunately, instead of receiving support from the current Supervisor, in many cases, he has opposed the best interests of North County residents and completely ignored north Salinas residents. We cannot afford another four years of old style politics which ignore public input and don't solve problems. We can't afford more closed-door deals that favor a few at significant cost to the general public. Instead, voters deserve a Supervisor who can effectively respond to a rapidly changing world. Voters deserve a representative who can deliver results. Voters deserve a representative that remembers he represents them. As a child, performing day labor harvesting row crops to help feed our family, I yearned for a better life. Later, with the help of loving foster parents, I achieved that goal through education and dedication. I've had the honor of receiving degrees from West Point, the Naval Post Graduate School, Webster University, along with a RAND Corporation fellowship. After decades of service to our country as an Army officer, and as an aerospace engineer/manager working for Lockheed Martin, Boeing and other defense industry companies I have the modern management skills required for North County's challenges. Please afford me the privilege of serving you as Supervisor for District 2. Thank you for your consideration, Ed Mitchell--Candidate for Supervisor, District 2 Ed@MitchellforSupervisor.com |
