Doing the grunt workJust believing in the priciples of a party and voting for its candidates is not enough for me. If I believe something is right, I have to do something about it. So I have always been an acive Democrat, pitching in to do not just the up-front things like running for office (which I have often done successfully) but all the unglamorous grass roots things that keep a party functioning day to day, year in and year out. Sure, I enjoy talking politics, but talk is empty if you don't follow it up with action. Walking door to door registering voters, working phone banks, setting up for events and cleaning up afterwards, getting out mailings -- that is what I have always done and the opportunity to continue doing so is much of why I want to keep serving on the Democratic Central Committee. And over the years, I have proved myself not only a hard worker but an independant thinker. I have stuck to my beliefs, sometimes at a considerable personal cost. I am willing to stand up to the influential and powerful and am controled by no special interests. I do stand up for and work hard for what I believe to be the basic principles of the Democratic Party |
