Pat first visited Humboldt County at the age of five, when his Merchant Marine father shipped into Eureka and his family drove from their home in Pacifica to visit him. In the 1960s, while a teenager, Pat often came here to fish in the Trinity River. He moved here in 1972 to attend Humboldt State University, graduating with a degree in Biology in 1975. From 1975-1985, he was the co-owner and manager of The Works Stereo and Video business. Pat returned to HSU after selling his interest in The Works and pursued graduate studies in fisheries from 1985-1987. After working for the U.S. Forest Service as a fisheries biologist for two years (1987-1989), he established a career as a successful fisheries and watershed consultant, which continues today.

Pat contributed four chapters to the Klamath River Long Range Restoration Plan in 1991 (http://www.krisweb.com/biblio/gen_usfws_kierassoc_1991_lrp.pdf), and assisted in evaluation of the Klamath Restoration program in 1999 (http://www.krisweb.com/biblio/klamath_usfws_kierassc_1999_evaluation.pdf). From 1994-2004, he helped put together a regional fisheries, water quality and watershed information database (http://www.krisweb.com). Pat also worked for the water quality departments of five Lower Klamath Basin Tribes, from 2004 to this year, to help build a case for removing Klamath dams and to force clean up of water pollution (http://www.klamathwaterquality.com).

Pat has a passion for public service and has donated thousands of hours to community organizations. He chaired the Eureka Bicycle Committee (1978-1980) and helped create the city's first bicycle plan. Pat served on, and then chaired, the County's Energy Advisory Committee and contributed to the 1984 General Plan Energy Element and the Project Independence study. He served on the Board of the Redwood Community Action Agency (1982-1994) and was the Board Chair from 1985-1992. The Agency provides critical services to the economically disadvantaged within our community.

From 1994 to 1999, Pat was a member of the Klamath River Provincial Advisory Committee that oversaw implementation of the management of federal lands under the Northwest Forest Plan. In recent years, he has been a member of the Redwood Forest Foundation Humboldt Working Group, which has the objective of obtaining community forests. Pat ran unsuccessfully for the McKinleyville Community Services District in 1995, but remained involved in the community by helping with the development of the McKinleyville Community Plan. In 2007, Pat was elected to the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District where he has been very active in pursuing economic development (http://www.humboldtbay.org/harbordistrict/newsroom/Humboldt%20Bay Economic%20Development%20Committee.pdf).

Pat loves to fish, garden and play baseball. He and his wife, Diane, have been happily married for 25 years and have owned a home in Dows Prairie since 1990. He recently ended his 25 year career with the Hey Juan Barnstormers slow-pitch, wood bat softball team. He competed in 30 Beer League tournaments from 1978-2008 and helped the Stormers win the tournament in his last competition.
