WHY RUN? I was inspired to become involved during the campaign of President Barack Obama. I saw that grassroots efforts actually make a difference. We need change: creation of more jobs (Wall Street's recklessness has created joblessness on Main street), investment in California's K-college schools, economic relief for the unemployed, including reinstating California's safety net, and change in the structure of State government. We need to implement performance-based management in our state government to decrease waste. And our legislators should oversee the implementation of all these changes. Why Run? I hope to bring my depth of knowledge, strong dedication, organizational skills and energy to the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County. I recently attended the California Democratic Party Convention as a voting delegate. I am inspired and ready for action.

DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE: For the past year I have attended the Contra Costa County Central Committee meetings, serving as an alternate for Ellen Nelson, meaning I vote when she is not present. These meetings are important to keep informed about issues in our area and state, and to learn of opportunities for becoming involved in groups seeking change. I also belong to, and attend meetings of the San Ramon Valley, Diablo Valley, Lamorinda, and El Cerrito Democratic clubs. At these meetings, and other special seminars, I have learned about county educational issues, the Water Bond and its effect on our Bay area, the need for reform in the California State Correction and Prison system, and the need for reform in our state government.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: I have attended several training sessions through Organizing for America (the National Democratic Campaign Committee) and the California Democratic Party, to learn about community organizing and database systems.

ENERGY: I am now highly motivated to put my knowledge and organizational skills to use by helping on campaigns for Democrats representing our area. In the past I have worked on the campaigns for Assembly member Joan Buchanan, Congressman Jerry McNerney, and we need to all work for their upcoming campaigns for re-election in November. There is also a huge need to elect a Democratic governor, and to increase overall the number of democrats in our state government.

BACKGROUND: I have lived in Danville for 26 years and have always been active in the community. My two adult children went through the San Ramon Valley Unified School District where I was active in the PTA. I was the representative for Montair Elementary School and Stone Valley Middle School during SRVUSD's many school bond efforts. I have also been Vice President of Public Policy for the Danville-Alamo chapter of the American Association of University Women, promoting legislation affecting women and their families. Prior to living in Danville, I received a Ph.D. in Psychology (research design and statistical analysis) from the University of California at Riverside.

Thank you for your consideration and I appreciate your vote.
