Full Biography for Bev Johnson

As lifelong District 3 residents, my family and I have strong ties to the community. My parents, Jean and Bob Follrath, are seniors active in Alameda and both of my children, Geoffrey and Katherine, attended local public schools here. The roots of our family tree has stretched widely over District 3 over the years. My husband, Michael, is a lieutenant with the Oakland Police Department and has been on the force there for more than 20 years. Education and Professional Career After attending Alameda public schools, I went to college at California State University East Bay. While on the Hayward campus, I majored in music and graduated with high honors. Continuing my education at the University of San Francisco, School of Law, I was deeply involved in activities that trained me in preparation for a legal career. I obtained my law degree from the McGeorge School of Law at University of the Pacific in 1986. Before going into private legal practice I served as a prosecutor for the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. In addition to being a longtime member of the California Bar, I have also been admitted to practice law in the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. Community Background I have been a part of local government now for more than a dozen years. I was first appointed to a four-year term as on the Alameda city Planning Board. Following that I ran and was elected to the City Council. In 2002, I ran to be Alameda's mayor and was proudly re-elected to that office in 2006. Throughout my time in public office I have always focused on promoting and implementing those policies that serve to enhance the quality of life in our communities. A big part of that is making sure our endangered local hospitals stay open, that we have vigorous and responsive public safety (police and fire) departments and that we actively partner with our school districts to do everything possible to make sure they remain quality institutions of learning. I care deeply our youth and our seniors and if elected to District 3 seat on the Board of Supervisors I intend to have the County step up its role in partnering with our local schools to help them be the best institutions of learning possible. I will also make sure that our seniors are getting the vital services that they have earned and which they deserve. I am proud of my record of public service and community involvement and I hope you will give me the opportunity to continue my service as your new supervisor. |
