Pennsylvania is one of only 5 states without a law to protect vulnerable and disabled individuals from being abused or neglected. We have Child Protective Laws and Senior Protective Laws but nothing is in place to allow for the investigation and protection of adults aged 18 + 59 years of age. People are literally dyingIn Pennsylvania we have Child Protective Laws and Senior Protective Laws but nothing is in place to allow for the investigation and protection of adults aged 18 + 59 years of age. People are literally dying and for 10 years Bills have been proposed to both bodies of the Legislature and neither has made this basic human right enough of a priority to make this LAW. It is past time to know that every person in Pennsylvania has the right to live without being abused or neglected and those who commit these acts can finally be brought to justice. Click the link below and watch a 4-minute piece that aired Thursday evening on Philadelphia NBC news about the need for an adult protective services law. (Please be patient to get through the short advertisement that precedes the piece.) http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local-beat/Investigation-Protecting-Disabled-Adults-65701322.html Thanks. Vulnerable people in Pennsylvania are literally dying and even after 10 years of advocacy the legislature has NOT seen fit to protect these people. I've proposed that the law be enacted without funding just so the police could investigate and abusers could be arrested but legislator after legislator refused, saying it was fiscally irresponsible to pass a law without funding. Isn't it morally irresponsible to know people are being abused and neglected and do nothing?! |
