Broadening EducationBy Kenneth J. "Ken" AufsesserCandidate for Member, Board of Education; Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Enriching education for ALL students at all levels to prepare them for life, especially writing skills and historical context.Preparing for standardized tests and achieving high scores is only 50% of the job of educating our students. At the elementary school level, enrichment should be taught to ALL students at the same time, but at multiple, appropriate levels. No one should feel left out! At JJMS and JJHS, strict subject matter should be enhanced by analogy to international and national issues, both current and, especially historical. Information should be submitted by teachers to a District-wide database for access by all teachers and staff. High school writing program shouls be two hours every two weeks in 20-minute segments taught by all academic teachers except Math and foreign language. Vocabulary should be taught by teachers, not researched by students for maximum effect. Educational, volunteer, diversity and extra-curricular achievements should be touted as loudly as athletic teams and test scores! |
