Diane Thompson was graduated from Temple Law School in May 1990, where she attended part time while working as a judicial aide, then law clerk, full time for Common Pleas Court Judge Bernard J. Avellino (deceased). Prior to her attending law school, Diane taught children from preschool age through twelfth grade over 15 years while raising two children with the help of her husband of 38 years, J. Harvey Thompson. In 1991, Diane opened her own practice as a sole practitioner with concentrations in family law and criminal defense. She is an active member in the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association, as well as a charter member of the Nicholas A. Cipriani American Inn of Court in Philadelphia. Diane serves as the Ward Attorney and Ward Chair for the 61st Ward, and has provided many hours of free legal services to constituents in her ward and throughout the city. She is also a member of the Brehon Society, Temple Law Alumni Association and Philadelphia chapter of National Organization for Women. She has been admitted to the state bars and federal District Courts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In 2008, Diane was elected to serve as the Alternate Delegate for Barack Obama in the 1st Congressional District and attended and participated in the National Democratic Convention in August 2008. Diane is currently a candidate for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia in the May 2009 primary and has been rated "Recommended" by the Philadelphia Bar Association. |
