Dear Voter, Having worked in public education for over sixteen years, I have a proven record of creating exceptional learning environments for students in which they are able to maximize their learning potential. I am now seeking your vote for Wissahickon School Board Director where I can utilize my experience to enhance the learning experience of our students. In my position as a special education teacher, I have knowledge and understanding of federal and state special education regulations. As a middle school teacher, I work within teams similar to the small learning communities now being explored by our district. Additionally, I have experience with Virtual High School, a distance-learning opportunity also under consideration. I hold a Master of Science in Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania and have countless continuing education credits in special education, brain theory, differentiated instruction, and technology in the classroom among other critical issues in education. While I could provide more details of my qualifications and past experiences, I would much rather share my goals for the future with you. Wissahickon has achieved Standard & Poor's first AAA bond rating ever given to a Pennsylvania school district. Philadelphia Magazine has ranked Wissahickon the 11th best school district in the eight-county area. But, we can do better. As School Board Director, I would work towards bridging the achievement gap that currently exists in our schools, and particularly at the secondary schools. I believe we can raise student achievement while stressing sound fiscal policies. I am committed to neighborhood schools with parent and community involvement in the education process. Given my experience, especially with special education and curriculum development, I am the right choice for School Director. Thank you for your consideration on November 3, 2009. Dawn Roberts |
