Candidate for
School Director; Wallingford-Swarthmore School District; Region 1

I want to represent the residents of this region on the school board because I love this community and I am passionate about education. I have two daughters attending Wallingford Elementary School and I want to make sure that they and those who follow them have the best educational experience possible. The reason Nether Providence is a wonderful place to live is the high quality of the school district. Sure, Media is great and we have convenient access to Philly, but the schools are the backbone of this community.

As an engineering professor, I taught students how to make sound decisions based on clear evidence, while balancing the technical and economic constraints of the problem at hand. I intend to use these skills as a school director to help make the quality of the educational experience for students in WSSD as valuable as possible without neglecting the unfortunate reality that it is the residential taxpayers in this district who pay for most of it.

In this time of economic uncertainty, some tough decisions are going to face the school board. I want to be involved in those decisions. I have children in the elementary school, and I have spent much of my career teaching college freshmen. I know what skills students acquire from a variety of schools and I know which of these skills are most valuable in the long run. This perspective needs to be present on the school board during these difficult times.
