By Louis P. Mafrice, Jr.

Candidate for School Director; Upper Saint Clair School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Brief Summary of Lou's Background
Lou grew up in the working class neighborhood of Morningside, in the City of Pittsburgh. His father worked for the US Postal Service and his mother was an Executive Secretary with Gimbels. Two values, among others, that Lou's parents instilled in their children were the value of a dollar and the value of a good education. Lou, his wife, Alicia, and their daughter have lived in Upper St. Clair for over 10 years. Lou has served as an assistant coach for his daughter's sports teams through the USC Athletic Association. Lou and his family are members of St. John Capistran in USC, where his wife has served as a CCD instructor and his daughter is currently an altar server.

Lou graduated from Central Catholic High School and received a BA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Lou completed business courses at Northwestern University before receiving an MBA from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Business and a JD from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law. Currently, Lou is a Senior Risk Consultant with a worldwide insurance broker. Lou's primary focus is to collaborate with middle and larger-sized corporate clients in identifying risk and the effective transfer of risk through appropriate insurance coverage. Lou also advocates for clients when insurers deny coverage.

Lou has never before run for elected office. However, while residing in Mt. Lebanon prior to moving to USC, Lou served as a Director for the Codes Review Board, presiding at hearings for building variances. He also served as the Parent Representative to the Board of Southminster Child Care. Later, Lou became a Director of the Board of the Westminster Nursery School and Child Development Center. Lou completed a full term in that position and was later asked to, and served on, a search committee for a new Nursery School Director. More recently, Lou was appointed by County Councilman Vince Gastgeb to the Allegheny County Citizens Election Advisory Board, assessing the benefits of electronic voting machines. Lou has regularly attended school board meetings since 2002, the year his daughter began kindergarten in USC.
