Saving Police and Fire - Our Top PriorityBy Jeff BerdingCandidate for Council Member; City of Cincinnati | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My top priority is making Cincinnati a safer City - and that means keeping our cops and firefighters on the streets to protect us from violence.I have been a leading voice for keeping cops and firefighters on our streets, despite recent talk of laying off cops and browning out fire companies. I refused to gamble with union concessions and offered solutions to prevent those layoffs. Thanks to the personal sacrifices of our police officers, we will not have to lay off any cops or firefighters in 2009. There is no more basic service for a government to offer its citizens than keeping the community safe. Our firefighters and police officers risk their lives everyday to protect us, and I have worked with my colleagues on Council so every public safety officer in Cincinnati stays on the street. I have paid some political consequences for my actions, including the loss of the Democratic Party's endorsement, but I will not back down from my position that more cops and more firefighters means a safer Cincinnati. |
