? 1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

Answer from Mary Roehm:

I have lived in the Harrison area for 32 years and raised our three children here. I owned and operated a business in downtown Harrison and have twenty years management experience. I have a common sense approach that will be valuable in city government.

? 2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

Answer from Mary Roehm:

1) Managing Growth- Harrison must review their Land Use Plan and adhere to it when considering new residential and commercial developments. The plan that is best for our community is not necessarily the most profitable for the developer. 2) Economic Development- Harrison must work to attract commercial and industrial developments that will create good paying jobs and stimulate economic growth. 3) Clean, safe neighborhoods- A solid police presence in our neighborhoods must be continued. Encourage neighbors to work together to create attractive, safe and healthy places to live. Work to develop additional park and recreation areas.

? 3. What two actions would you promote to enhance city revenue or decrease city expenditures in order to balance the city budget, given the current economic conditions? (100 word limit)

Answer from Mary Roehm:

The city of Harrison is in decent financial shape right now, but the country's economic downtown could change that. City council members and city officials must maintain a course of watchful spending. All proposed new expenditures must be very carefully considered and we should not be afraid of the word "no."

? 4. What steps should the local government take to ensure that the quality of rental property meets minimum legal standards? (100 word limit)

Answer from Mary Roehm:

Our city has adopted the International Property Maintenence Code which is a great tool that helps us hold property owners accountable. If we use the International Property Maintenence Code and the city laws consistently and fairly, we can make sure Harrison is a clean, safe and appealing place to live. The city must make sure that its buildings and grounds are well maintained and set an example for our residents. If elected, I'll work hard to make sure our buildings are clean, our grass in mowed, and our image is second to none.
