Dr. Terrence Murphy's Prescription for Yorktown
"I am running for town councilman for my young family and yours. I want to make Yorktown a place for you to spend the rest of your life. A town where your children will want to raise a family of their own. This is what we have strayed from and what I will strive towards." -- Dr. Terrence Murphy Taxes Are Forcing People Out Yorktown's surpluses are not revenue. We need to open up our town for small businesses to relieve the tax burden. Any extra revenue should be reinvested to spur growth or returned to the taxpayers. Accountability Is Essential Yorktown's master plan for town improvements must be implemented more efficiently. The town board should be drafting a five year plan with goals to ensure we are utilizing town owned lands such as Shallow Creek and Lock Ledge to prevent them from going to waste. Getting Back To Common Sense We shouldn't be telling people what colors to paint their houses, or what type of lighting they should use on their signs, nor should the Yorktown Athletic Club be charged for access to town parks. Attracting Small Businesses Yorktown should form an Economic Development Corporation (a public-private partnership) to partner with the Chamber of commerce and attract new businesses and job opportunities, broaden the town's tax base and to enhance the quality of life for residents of Yorktown. Keeping Our Children Safe As President of Keeping Westchester Safe, Terrence has been our strongest advocate for `Child Safety Zone' legislation to protect our children and keep them safe from deviant sexual predators. The Energy We Need As an owner and operator of two successful businesses in Yorktown Heights, Terrence is on the cutting edge of going green and is powering his properties with geothermal and solar energy. The town can receive tax write-offs and generate revenue by investing in renewable energies as part of a five-year plan, and erecting solar panels in unused space and selling the power back to the electric companies. |
