Why I am running for Mayor

By Virginia (Arauza) Madueno

Candidate for Mayor; City of Riverbank

This information is provided by the candidate
My name is Virginia Madueno. I am a proud lifelong resident of Riverbank, a successful small business owner, and married mother of three children. My decision to run for Mayor was inspired by residents who want new and effective leadership in City Hall. We need to end "politics as usual" and work for more transparency in city government. I will fight for a more open government and use my experience as a former Council Member and over 20 years working in management to create a prosperous and sustainable community. I will work hard to ensure that our community thrives with economic development opportunities by bringing in good paying jobs and industry that allows us the ability to provide for our families. How will I do this, by ensuring that our city is more business friendly and eliminate the red tape that prevents businesses from coming to Riverbank. As Riverbank prepares to take ownership of the Army Ammunition plant, it will be imperative to bring in public private partnerships that will create that site as a vibrant, regional focal point for industry, with green industry being an integral part of that vision. As many of you have seen, our downtown beautification project is looking incredible. We need to harness this opportunity with our downtown project to create a hub for regional tourism which will not only bring in visitors but will bring in tax dollars that will stimulate new small business ventures and help promote and sustain our existing small businesses. Our downtown project has the opportunity to unite our community, a place where families and friends can gather, a place where businesses can thrive, a place where we come to share in local talent and art. A place we can all be proud to call the heart of our city. As a mother of three children, my ultimate goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for us to raise our families. Our community is not immune to crime, drugs and violence. I will continue my work and advocacy on fighting drugs, specifically meth and marijuana and create more opportunities for our youth to deter them from joining gangs. I want to see the city working more with our schools in offering more youth based programs and activities and look for ways to empower and engage our local youth in the areas of civic engagement and public service. During my years on the Council, I worked to bring programs that help residents in our community. As Mayor, I will continue to promote these programs and get residents working together to solve our city's problems. My name is Virginia Madueno. I would appreciate your vote for Mayor on November 3.
