United States Representative; District 10

Mary McIlroy is a long-time political activist and is the Peace and Freedom Party candidate for the Special Election for California's 10th Congressional District. Both her parents were union menbers, her father a printer and her mother in the Communication Workers of America. She grew up going to protests against the Viet Nam war, and continued political activism while in college, at San Francisco State University.

Mary was a founder-member of the Irish Republican Socialist Committees, North America, and in that group until 2005. Mary was active around the struggle against US intervention in Central America and elsewhere in the world, the Anti-Aparthied movement, and many other struggles. Since October, 1984, Mary has been the host and producer of "The Irish Freedom Show" on KPOO-fm in San Francisco, a listener-sponsored, non-commercial station.

Mary registered Peace and Freedom in 1987, and was elected to the San Francisco County Central Committee in 1988 and 1994. When Ellen Tauscher was nonimated for a post at the State Department, Mary decided to throw her hat into the ring and run for the seat. "This is a unique oportunity to raise the issues of concern to the working class. We can have a voice in what we'd like to see change in our district and the country."
