Rational Decisions and Transparency

I cannot separate my political philosophy from my scientific training and habit of thought. Political decisions must be based on the best available data and open to public scrutiny.

Responsiveness and Respect

My teaching experience has taught me that often you have to hush or tune out the loudest voices so that you can hear the many who have thoughtful ideas and valid needs. I treated each student with respect and succeeded in creating an atmosphere in which students respected me and each other. I want to bring the same spirit to city hall.

Responsibility and Sustainability

I believe that we must safeguard our city and our planet for future generations. Our collective well-being depends on our ability to sustain ourselves. As a community we have to live within our means both fiscally and with regard to dwindling resources. I believe as the Native Americans do: "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children".
