Sunnyvale faces complex and difficult challenges. We need to solve our structural deficit, $13 million this year alone. We need to finish and open the Downtown. We face a looming water crisis. Our public library no longer serves all of our residents' needs, and our children's education suffers as a result. And we need to solve all of these problems with a shrinking budget and a city that is entirely built out.

Sunnyvale needs experienced and thoughtful leaders, ready to serve on the very first day. There are new developments in the ongoing Downtown Project every day, as the situation continues to change. We cannot afford to wait a year or more while a new council member learns how the City works, learns about the issues that we face, and makes inevitable mistakes along the way.

I've worked hard to learn the issues and follow City developments. For five years, I've attended Council meetings and advised Council on library issues, in my role as Chair of the Board of Library Trustees. For the Mary Avenue Overpass, the Palo Alto Medical Facility project, the Kaiser left-hand turn issue, selection of the new City Manager, the Stevens Creek Trail, the Parks of the Future study, and many other issues large and small, I attended the discussions, study sessions, and debates, I listened to the many comments and concerns that citizens expressed, and I've added my opinion when I've had something to contribute. I've worked to be engaged in issues, and to be a positive force for change in Sunnyvale.

Sunnyvale needs experienced and thoughtful leaders to spend long hours talking to residents and hearing their concerns and their ideas, work through complex issues, and find the best possible solutions to the many complex problems that we face. I'm asking to be your voice on the Council.
