Annan was appointed to the College of Marin Board of Trustees in 2007 and currently serves as Vice President and Legislative Liaison. In the two years that Annan has served as a Trustee, the College of Marin has undergone a period of intense revitalization and growth. She immediately took on a leadership role when she joined the Board, founding the Indian Valley Campus Roundtable, a think tank of Novato community leaders who advise College of Marin. Enrollment at Indian Valley Campus has nearly doubled and a number of new programs have launched there, including an organic garden, solar technology installation, and water management. Annan is deeply committed to student success and access to higher education opportunities, which is at the core of College of Marin's mission and vision for the future. She is an enthusiastic advocate for the college and sees a very positive future for its role in the community. She envisions the Kentfield and Indian Valley Campuses as community resources that are used 7 days of week for lifelong learning, the arts, athletics and community services. Fiscal accountability and vitality will be her top priority to properly manage and enhance every taxpayer dollar. Annan is an experienced educator and has worked with students from all walks of life, including gifted and talented, English language learners and special education students. Her career has centered on using data to implement successful educational programs. Annan knows supporting our students with excellent services in mentoring, tutoring and counseling can make all the difference. Annan will continue the work of the late Harry J. Moore in making sure that COM is a leader in sustainability and green workforce development. Annan was nominated for the Heart of Marin Leadership Award for her work as President of the Marin Institute, a project of the Buck Trust, and was awarded the Marin County Office of Education Golden Bell Award for her tireless work in school climate and safety for all. She earned her Masters in Educational Counseling at California State University Hayward (now East Bay) and has worked in the public schools for 30 years as a school psychologist and high school guidance counselor. Annan is the oldest of 6 children and grew up playing on the University of California Berkeley campus where her Dad taught English literature. The first in his family to go beyond high school, he taught Annan the value of a college education. Annan lives in Novato with husband Frederick L. Hansen who is a special education teacher. They are the proud parents of 3 adult children and are enjoying their 3 grandsons. |
