"I am a team player that believes in learning and listening to others. I have the time and energy to give back to my community and I am honored and humbled to have this great opportunity to serve the community of Salinas". "I look forward to working with the Salinas Union High School District Board Members to make an effective team for our students, teachers and staff. This is what leads me to want to run for this office. "Current members of the SUHSD Board have stepped forward to endorse me; with that it encourages me to follow through with my upmost commitment and integrity".

Bio

EvaMarie Martinez is a life-long resident of Salinas Valley and Salinas High School graduate. A proud parent with her husband Tony Martinez they have four beautiful children. Mrs. Martinez attended Hartnell College and Salinas Adult School, where she became a licensed nursing assistant working in the health care industry aiding our community seniors since 1994. Currently she is a consultant for Adobe Home Health Inc. Martinez is currently an active member of the Everett Alvarez High School Parent Club. She volunteered to work the first time Non-profit Fireworks booth which helped raise thousands of much needed funds for Alvarez sports. Mrs. Martinez has always possessed a fund raising gift in grant writing which has aided in a number of youth organizations in the community. Issues

SAFETY

  • Support on campus police
  • Support anti- gang programs collaborating with City of Salinas community leaders and all county law enforcement officials
  • Supporting services and programs for after school activities

TRUANCY
  • Students need to learn to be more accountable for their absences
  • Supporting after school and Saturday school tutoring
  • Public reporting of non-attendance in community forums and daily bulletins

BUDGET CUTS
  • Greater accountability of District spending
  • Balanced budget
  • Mandatory cash reserve every year

TEACHERS & CLASSIFIED
  • Working to provide teachers & classified resources they need to perform
  • No cuts for teachers and classified
  • Respecting current and future contracts with district
  • Pledge to address the rights and interest of workers
  • Pledge to oppose all efforts that would erode the rights of workers
