Political Philosophy for Brian Woods
Candidate for |
Although I have always paid close attention to current events, and the actions of local government, it was only recently that I developed a serious interest in entering the political arena as a candidate. I have long felt that as a society we have shifted away from the basic belief that our nation is stronger and our lives more enjoyable when people are free to live up to their potential, as given them by their Creator. This, by necessity, means limited government intervention into the lives of the citizenry. Recent events within our economic system have only served to magnify the problem with large scale government intervention and the risk it poses to individual liberty. As we are learning, the power to tax is the power to control. This issue must be addressed. I, like the nation's founding fathers, have come to realize that government is a necessary evil. In order to provide security and orderly conduct for a civilized society, some level of government must exist. The quest is to strike a balance between a functional government that can ensure orderly conduct, while at the same time limiting itself, in order not to unnecessarily burden the people and deprive them of their God given inalienable rights. At the local level, government has the most direct and powerful influence on our daily lives. Although Sacramento and Washington D.C. make powerful and important decisions, the choices of our local officials have more impact on our quality of life and the way in which we live them. Out of concern that more could be done to safeguard our precious liberties and provide for a secure civilized society, I have decided to run for city council. It is with a humble heart and a deep, abiding respect for the public's right to choose their leaders that I ask for your support and your vote this November 3rd. |
