Political Philosophy for Michael P. Wermers
Candidate for |
This is not a time to be timid. Our schools are in crisis and strong leadership is mandatory. We must not lose sight of our mission to provide effective education for our children. When I ask you to support my candidacy for the Torrance Unified School District Board of Education, that request comes with the sincere promise that I will not be a rubber stamp for past practice. I will be your voice on the Board. As an advocate for our children I will also be a tireless lobbyist in Sacramento and Washington D.C. We have been short changed in state funding for years and that must come to an end. As a Board member of the Torrance Education Foundation I took on the leadership position to bring a summer school program to Torrance that not only provides much needed classes but also contributes to the funding available for our schools. The entire community has a vested interest in the education and development of our children. We need programs that promote broad volunteer involvement in the schools; we must strengthen the "Adopt a School" program so every campus has a business support partner; and we must make certain that tour schools are a safe haven for all students. Together we will weather this crisis and come out better than before. We start with a good school district, let's make it a great district. |
