|
When he was in the fourth grade at Yorba Elementary School, Robert Torres traveled to Sacramento to meet with State Senator Bob Margett to discuss the lack of resources at his school. For Robert it was not about lack of qualified teachers or tasteless cafeteria food. His concern was about a basic need, the lack of toilet paper in the student bathrooms. Later that year, Robert was successful in ensuring that Yorba Elementary received a truck full of supplies. As a middle school student in 2000, Robert worked to elect his mother Norma Torres to the Pomona city council. In 2001, he worked with the local youth to design and build Pomona's first skate park, which provides our young residents with a safe designated area to skateboard. In 2005, he helped establish North Pomona's first beautiful yard contest to encourage residents to beautify their neighborhoods. At Christmas time, he worked with community leaders along with the Los Angeles County Fire Fighters to organize a Toy drive where they gave away thousands of toys to the needy children in Pomona. While attending Mount San Antonio College, Robert worked countless of hours phone banking and campaigning door to door to elect his mother Mayor of Pomona. Two years later, Robert volunteered for the Torres for Assembly Campaign. As the campaign scheduler Robert talked to statewide leaders and maintained a complex and demanding schedule. He also assumed other responsibilities as office manager and campaign field operator for yet another successful campaign. Robert Torres currently serves as a Vehicle Parking Commissioner in the City of Pomona. He is a California State Delegate and a member of the Los Angeles Democratic Central Committee. |
