I believe strongly in the American way of life and am sworn to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, both as an attorney and as a Superior Court Judge Pro Tem.

I believe in staying in school, studying hard, excelling academically, putting in a hard days work for a fair day's pay - or for myself, doing all of the above at the same time. I am so very grateful to live in a country that has provided me with the opportunity and freedom to have a full time job to pay my own way through college and law school in order to pursue my life's ambition - the pursuit of Justice for others.

I believe in personal responsibility, self-reliance, work ethic, integrity and character. I believe in holding oneself to a higher standard and constantly striving to be a better human being. I believe in putting the interests of others before my own.

I believe in the freedom, individual liberty, and equal opportunity to pursue and excel in one's own life work that this great Country provides. I believe in a free market economy with minimal governmental regulation and minimal taxation. Capitalism, production, hard work, profit, success and personal wealth and financial security are not bad words but rather GOOD things worthy of striving for. I believe in the ability to fairly acquire and keep the fruits of our hard labor! I know the difference between the operation of private business and government business. Government is certainly NOT in the business of making a profit! At lease it shouldn't be.

I know that being environmentally friendly is and can be profitable. We need to do so much more.

I believe that the purpose of the government is to provide for the common defense, public safety, and infrastructure and to promote the general welfare - NOT provide the general welfare. I believe that charity begins at home. I, too believe that the bigger the government, the smaller the individual.

We Americans are very gradually relinquishing our personal liberties and freedoms- those freedoms which have been, and are continuing to be, bought and paid for by the ultimate sacrifice of our brave solders past and present. I believe a law that restricts or regulates personal conduct that has no realistic impact or affect on others, is wrong. Many such laws currently exist. Some of our legislators are trying to enact more.

I am of the opinion that the federal voting rights law that requires all ballots and voter information be printed in both English and a single foreign language is wrong as it violates the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. It gives preference to a single foreign language over all other foreign languages. Individuals who happen to be able to read that particular foreign language are given an unfair advantage and preference over those citizens who don't. There may be many jurisdictions in this country where that single foreign language is not even spoken, much less read. That federal law also unjustly imposes on the local governments and taxpayers the cost of printing the additional foreign language. If political candidates wish to have information printed in any foreign language, they are certainly free to pay for it themselves.

As a Judge Pro Tem, I uniformly and fairly enforce all laws, even though I may personally disagree with some of them. My personal views and opinions don't come into account on the bench. Again, I am sworn to uphold, defend and support the Constitution and all the laws. If I want to reform or eliminate those laws with which I disagree personally, I vote and run for public office.

As a businessman, I have to be fiscally conservative and financially responsible or else I won't stay in business. Unfortunately, our California State Government has not been financially responsible with our tax dollars, probably because most of our legislators have never operated their own business. Our state lawmakers have simply promised more than we taxpayers can afford and look what a mess our state's finances are! Most of the other local municipalities have acted similarly and are now looking at huge budget deficits. Los Angeles City alone has nearly half a billion dollar deficit! Thankfully, I don't live in L.A. City. Fortunately, Lomita's city budget is currently balanced. It must stay that way through proper fiscal management and restraint! All of our governments must live within our (taxpayers) means.

As your representative on the City Council, I will actively seek out, encourage and listen to all viewpoints -ESPECIALLY those with which I may not (initially) agree. How can one make the best descision without listening to ALL sides? Moreover, you can learn much more from listening to your opponents than your supporters.
