A member of any school board should have a vested interest and be a stakeholder - meaning that they need to have children in the District.
A school board needs to be well-rounded and have people with various backgrounds. Members should have real-world work experience in areas such as education, business and law. While there are a multitude of issues that a board will face, one issue that is guaranteed to come up every single year is the budget. School districts have extremely large and complex budgets. School board members need to have the ability to recognize, analyze and bring real-world work experience to the table when dealing with the various finance and budget issues that come up when dealing with a complex budget.
