Submitted By Diane Robinson Candidate for Board of Trustees - Palos Verdes Library DistrictSteeped in the history of the Peninsula as a descendent of one of its early founders, Juan Sepulveda, I feel a strong connection to what the preservation of our local history, through our libraries, means to the many generations of residents who call Palos Verdes home. It has been my home for 15 years. To do my part in my community, I volunteer in such organizations as the Peninsula Friends of the Library, League of Women Voters, PVP Coordinating Council and the Palos Verdes Woman's Club. I enjoyed a 35-year career in public service as a police officer, making what I believed was a positive difference in people's lives, not just by doing my job, but through extensive community outreach to our most vulnerable + youngsters and seniors. I have always believed in giving back to my community. To quote Gandhi, "No matter how insignificant what you do may seem, it is important that you do it." Now retired and studying for my doctorate in public administration, I believe the Library Board would benefit from my proven community outreach skills with children and the elderly. I advocated on their behalf with private, public and non-profit sectors. With my degree, I'm honing my skills in the workings of city government, realizing the importance of being fiscally responsible and accountable to taxpayers and the need to explore innovative solutions and build consensus. I feel that I have a unique understanding of what it means to protect and serve and how this creed will go far in successfully serving the public on the Library Board of Trustees. I would protect our community and its quality of life by preserving our rich history through our libraries. I see libraries as a symbol of the need for all of us to be lifelong learners, students in the halls of knowledge. I would serve the future needs of Palos Verdes through innovative planning, relentless fundraising and careful budgeting. |
