Public Service

By John C. McTaggart

Candidate for Council Member; City of Rancho Palos Verdes

This information is provided by the candidate
A lifetime of public service is esplained showing that I have the energy and dedication required for being a councilmember again.
Public service is demanding of time and does not necessarily mean holding an office as a councilmember. As a councilmember, I served on a number of committees representing Rancho Palos Verdes, the League of California Cities (LCCA), California Contract Cities (CCCA), Metro, Max Transit, and the County of Los Angeles. When I left the council in 2003, I could no longer serve under RPV, LCCA, CCCA, and my positions on the LA County West Vector District and Max Transit were vacated by our city council. However, my position as Chair of the LAX Community Noise Roundtable was kept because Supervisor Knabe appointed me to represent him. The Metro position was kept because the South Bay COG had appointed me and continues my appointment there as vice chair. I currently serve on three committees with the LA County Solid Waste Management Task Force, again, Supervisor Knabe appointed me as a public representative. The Task Force position is that of alternate public member. I serve on the Facility Plan Review Committee that reviews permit requests for landfills and their modification. The Alternative Technology committee, sometimes referred to as Conversion Technology, is developing a use for the residual waste from recycling facilities to prevent waste from ending up in landfill. The fuel/electricity that will be produced will reduce our dependence on oil. I am very proud of what we are doing in the field of conversion technology. I was and still am an alternate to the Inland Empire Regional Composting Authority and we are now if full production of an extremely fine composting product. The committee has been working on the design, construction and operation of the facility during the past seven years. This facility is completely indoors and employs state-of-the-art microbiological filtration of the air to the satisfaction of the South Coast Air Quality District. It allows us to keep sewer sludge from landfill elsewhere and the development of the facility is another thing of which I am most proud. The above illustrates my life-long dedication to public service and my willingness to go the extra mile for you the public. If elected, I will continue with all of the work I have been doing and some additional areas of service as well.
