Candidate for
Governing Board Member; San Gabriel Unified School District

My deep interest in education, and concern for the children in this District, has been demonstrated by the time, effort, and resources I have devoted to them for the past 14 years.
I have resided in San Gabriel for 24 years, and been a homeowner here since 1987. Married to Edward in 1986, we are parents to 2 children who began in McKinley elementary and graduated from San Gabriel schools, Marc in 2004, Tamiko in 2007.
As parents, we've proudly applauded scholarship awards, and anxiously attended meetings about I.E.P., A.D.D., and missing homework issues. Having experienced both a motivated scholar, and a child who struggled academically, I feel gives me deeper perspectives on student issues, and understanding of parents' challenges.
Lead by dedicated administrators and educators, our San Gabriel schools have won honors as Distinguished Schools. I pledge to affirm their achievements, and support their hard work.

Active Community volunteer, with many roles in the School system:

• Member of McKinley PTA board 1997-2000, serving as President 1999-2000.
• Member of San Gabriel Education foundation, and have served on their Board.
• Assisted in campaigns for School District Unification and school bonds.
• Member of Jefferson Middle School Site Council, GATE parent, Band volunteer.
• Member of Gabrielino High School Site Council, drama parent, Secretary of Band Boosters board, Athletic Booster, and general parent volunteer.
• Served on the California Distinguished school panels at Jefferson and at Gabrielino, and on WASC accreditation panel for Gabrielino.
• Participated in District interview panels for Gabrielino, for both Assistant Principal, and Principal. Other volunteer roles:
• Member of Friends of Foster Children since 1983, chairing committees, and Board positions as Secretary, and President. Honored as volunteer of the year 1990.
• Participated in the local YMCA Indian Guides/Maidens programs, served as leader of our Tribe.
• Team mother for Little League and AYSO soccer.
• Assisted with the Sunday School, Youth Group and other functions at Church of our Saviour Episcopal.
• Member of the Women's Division of the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce
