Norwalk - La Mirada District Goals

ALL STAKEHOLDERS (TEACHERS, CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES, PARENTS, PRINCIPALS, ADMINISTRATORS, BOARD MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS MUST WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE OUR DISTRICT GOALS:

1. HIGH STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
2. FISCAL SOLVENCY WITH INCREASED ENROLLMENT
3. EFFECTIVE STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION
4. ACCOUNTABILITY OF ALL STAKEHOLDERS

The most important issue facing the Board of Education is increased student achievement. Our District has been implementing a standards driven curriculum and working tirelessly on collaborative teacher in-service, curriculum revision, and instructional practices that will lead to increased student success. We must continue this focus on standards based curriculum.

ALL STAKEHOLDERS (TEACHERS, CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES, PARENTS, PRINCIPALS, ADMINISTRATORS, BOARD MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS MUST WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE OUR DISTRICT GOALS:

1. HIGH STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
2. FISCAL SOLVENCY WITH INCREASED ENROLLMENT
3. EFFECTIVE STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION
4. ACCOUNTABILITY OF ALL STAKEHOLDERS

High student achievement is the major priority of THE NORWALK - LA MIRADA SCHOOL DISTRICT. It does not stand alone. In order to have increased student achevement, It is essential that the following issues are of primary concern:

1. Our schools must be safe for all of our students with a tough, fair, firm stand on all disciplinary issues. In order for this to occur there has to be continuous pre-planning and established procedures to follow in emergency situations. This is currently an ongoing practice in our District.
2. We must work with parents and teachers to raise the levels of student expectation and student performance.
3. We must continue to provide a quality learning environment with adequate space, modernized classrooms, high quality instructional materials, current technologies and well trained, dedicated teachers and staffs.
4. Our district must continue to have strong fiscal policies with adequate reserves.
5. Our District must have A commitment to Neighborhood schools and to encouraging and strengthening parent involvement and participation in their child's education.

Ed Hengler has:

Lived in the community for 47 years.

Graduated 3 daughters from La Mirada High School.

Worked in both the cities of Norwalk and La Mirada and is familiar with all of the schools of our District.


Has teaching experience as an elementary teacher, a La Mirada High School Spanish teacher, an Adult School ESL Teacher, and a Fulbright Grant University Exchange teacher in Mexico and in Spain.


Has administrative experience in the District as Director of Adult Education and Assistant Superintendent Educational Services.


Has experience as a Board Member and Board President.


Has complete bilingual fluency in both written and spoken Spanish and English.


Has worked tirelessly in supporting the Board's Goal of 9 out of ten students reading at grade level to implement measures to increase student achievement,

It is indeed an honor for me to be effective incumbent candidate for reelection to the Norwalk-La Mirada Board of Education

I believe that I am well qualified to be re-elected as a member of the Norwalk-La Mirada Board of Education and I, hereby, ask for your vote to re-elect the first guy on the ballot, Ed Hengler to the Board of Education.
