Present And Future Goals for Culver City Unified School DistrictBy Alan S. ElmontCandidate for Governing Board Member; Culver City Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Tackle the financial crisis head on and develop a long term plan for the stakeholders of Culver City Unified School DistrictClearly, the single biggest issue facing our District involves the budget. Sacramento has not done us any favors, and the District is looking at having to cut an additional $3 million more, having already cut $6 million over the past two years. I have spent the last six years as an appointed member of CCUSD's Community Budget Advisory Committee(CBAC). CBAC's sole purpose is to analyze the budget and make recommendations to the Board on spending and cutting. My six years of volunteer service give me a perspective apart from all other candidates. If elected, I can hit the proverbial ground running, and help make the best decisions regarding any cuts, and to keep these cuts as far away from the children as possible. As a business manager I have over thirty years experience responsible for business profitability. I can use my extensive professional background and my knowledge of our school district to be an excellent member of the Board of Education. As a home owner, a father of a child that has graduated from CCHS and two more children presently in the District, I have a vested interest in our district. I look forward to serving you. CCUSD needs a clear vision to protect and grow the educational achievements that our children have gained while managing the financial crises. Short-term solutions are no longer adequate. There has to be a long-term vision to insure our schools' preeminence. Twenty years from now CCUSD should be the model of educational excellence. |
